Lofi
feat. John Tchicai is a brand new project that was initiated by piano
player Anders Filipsen (dk) and drummer Marc Lohr (lux).
Their desire to play
agressive
and highly progressive music made them look for a saxophone player that
could supplement them, and after having played with John on a couple of
occasions the trio was formed.
The music is a mix of original
compositions and freeform. The bands instrumentation gives it a very
elastic and flexible sound, which definitely provokes and intrigues -

By
approaching jazz from a wide scope, Afro-Danish-American John Tchicai
has been continuously progressive throughout his life. He became a
leading eponent of the avant-garde jazz in New York in the 60's and a
father-figure for the European avant-garde after that. Now based in
Davis, California and Claira, France, by a single-mindedness of purpose
and action, his work still reflects what he's always been doing, which
is innovate and inspire other people in the most refreshing way.

Marc
Lohr grew up in Luxembourg where he studied jazz as well as classical
music; he also studied in Holland; he graduated from the royal
conservatory in The Hague; after a 4 year stay in copenhagen he now
resides in berlin.
It would take more than a
few words to describe all his current
projects. He mostly plays music which is or includes improvisation;
what ever shape and sound the outcome has, strongly depends on the
band. He also writes music; sometimes for dance, sometimes not. |
Anders Filipsen's sound is
characterized by his way of using the keyboard in a percussive manner
which brings out the full range of the instruments dynamic potential.
As a pianist he is inspired by both the tradition and the avantgarde
ranging from Red Garland and Monk to Ornette Coleman and Cecil Taylor.
The last couple of years he has begun playing keyboards in bands like
Farven Luft and Lima Lima, which mixes avantgarde pop with the
free/jazz. |
